Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: February 2026

Some links on Madeirau.com are affiliate links. This page explains what that means, who we work with, and how it affects what we write.

An affiliate link is a tracked URL. If you click one and make a booking or purchase, we earn a small commission from the seller — at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is identical whether you use our link or go directly to the site.

Who We Work With

We have affiliate relationships with the following platforms:

  • Booking.com — hotel and accommodation bookings
  • GetYourGuide — tours, activities and experiences
  • Discover Cars — car hire comparison
  • Expedia — hotels and travel packages

How This Affects Our Editorial Content

It doesn't change what we recommend — or at least, that's our policy and we take it seriously.

We only feature hotels, tours, and services that we would recommend regardless of commission. Every article on this site includes honest assessments: the ChooseBox "avoid" sections exist because a bad recommendation helps nobody, including us. Commission from a booking that disappoints our readers costs us more in trust than it earns in revenue.

We do not accept payment to feature, positively review, or rank any hotel, restaurant, tour operator, or service. Editorial decisions are made independently of affiliate relationships.

What We Don't Do

  • We don't use generic search-redirect affiliate links that don't point to specific products
  • We don't inflate ratings or hide negative information to protect affiliate income
  • We don't create content whose primary purpose is to generate clicks rather than inform readers

This disclosure complies with:

  • EU Directive 2005/29/EC on unfair commercial practices
  • FTC guidelines (US Federal Trade Commission) on endorsements and testimonials
  • Google Webmaster Guidelines — affiliate links on this site use rel="sponsored" in the HTML

Affiliate links are also mentioned in our Terms & Conditions (Section 3) and Privacy Policy (Section 3).
